Water - based oils

This painting was inspired by the plight of a Nigerian woman who was scheduled to be stoned to death for having a child out of wedlock, signalling her adultery.  The father of the child was merely required to place his hand on the Koran and deny that he was the father.  Amina, on the other hand, was holding in her arms what was described in trial as "the evidence of her crime" - her baby daughter and therefore could not deny the charges.

After a world-wide outcry (symbolized by the red line emanating from Amina's mouth and stretching out into space), her sentence was overturned. I am certain there are many other women facing this same punishment.  Without similar publicity, where are they now?
